Sveti Juraj is a photogenic coastal village dramatically tucked away between the azure Adriatic Sea and the steep limestone cliffs of the Velebit mountain range. Its history stretches back to antiquity when it was known as the Roman settlement of Lopsica. Today, the village serves as a well-suited base for nature enthusiasts, with roads leading directly from the coast into the pristine highlands of Northern Velebit National Park. The combination of maritime flair and alpine proximity creates a unique atmosphere. Locals maintain deep-rooted traditions in fishing and seafaring. The area is particularly famous for the Bura wind, a fierce downward wind that rushes from the mountain to the sea, shaping the landscape and keeping the air crystal clear. Numerous small coves around Sveti Juraj offer peaceful swimming spots away from the crowds.
