Starše is a rural municipality located in the heart of the Drava Plain, midway between the cities of Maribor and Ptuj. The settlement has a long tradition dating back to Roman times, as the ancient road connecting Celeia (Celje) with Poetovio (Ptuj) passed through this territory. Remains of Roman villas and milestones have been discovered nearby, highlighting the region's importance in antiquity. Today, the community is heavily defined by agriculture, particularly the cultivation of grains and pumpkins, used to produce the famous Styrian pumpkin seed oil. Geographically, the municipality spans the flat plains south of the Drava River, giving it a characteristic landscape of vast open fields. Starše is also known for its rich folk culture and the preservation of traditional customs, which are celebrated during local festivals. Its quiet location away from major highways makes the area a peaceful retreat for nature enthusiasts and cyclists traveling through the Drava Valley.
