Kumrovec, a photogenic village in the Croatian Zagorje region not far from the Slovenian border, is a unique open-air museum and a window into the past. Known as the birthplace of Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito, whose birth house stands at the centre of the "Staro Selo" (Old Village) museum village, the place provides much more than just political history. The museum extends over the entire village and includes around 40 restored farmhouses, barns and workshops from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can stroll through the alleys and immerse themselves in the traditional way of life of the region, from the blacksmith's shop to the weaving mill and the pottery.
