Zlatoličje Hydroelectric Power Plant (Slovenia)

Weather…

The Zlatoličje Hydroelectric Power Plant is the largest canal-type power plant in Slovenia and a key component of the energy infrastructure on the Drava River. It was constructed between 1964 and 1969 and was one of the most powerful power plants in the region at the time of its commissioning. The plant utilizes the drop of the Drava River through an artificial supply canal, enabling efficient electricity generation independent of the immediate riverbed. With an installed capacity of approximately 126 megawatts, Zlatoličje makes a significant contribution to the country's supply of renewable energy. In recent years, the power plant has undergone comprehensive modernization to increase efficiency and extend its operational lifespan. As part of the chain of Drava power plants (DEM), it plays a central role in grid stability and the implementation of Slovenia's energy transition toward carbon-neutral sources.
