Ekom Nkam Falls (Cameroon)

Weather…

Ekom Nkam Falls is a sweeping natural wonder located in the dense jungles of the Littoral Region, near the town of Melong. Here, the Nkam River violently plunges 80 meters down a steep basalt gorge, creating a deafening roar and thick clouds of mist. This impressive twin waterfall gained international fame when it served as a primary filming location for the 1984 blockbuster movie, "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes." The surrounding environment is a pristine example of equatorial rainforest. It is characterized by towering trees, massive ferns, and an incredible diversity of birdlife. A narrow, steep pathway leads visitors down to various viewpoints, where they can feel the immense power of the cascading water up close. The high humidity and constant spray nourish an emerald-green ecosystem that feels completely isolated from the outside world. Access to the falls involves a rugged dirt track from Melong, which can be challenging without a suitable vehicle. While the waterfalls are at their most voluminous at the height of the rainy season, the good time to visit is just after the rains in November or December. During this window, the water flow is still magnificent, but the access roads are safe and navigable again.
