The Ekom-Nkam Falls, also known as Ekom Falls, are among Cameroon's most wide-open natural wonders, situated on the Nkam River near the town of Melong. Dropping from a height of approximately 80 meters, the water plunges into a deep gorge surrounded by lush, dense tropical rainforest. The falls are particularly spectacular during the rainy season when the river flows at maximum capacity, creating a permanent mist that hangs over the canyon. The site achieved international fame as a prominent filming location for the 1984 movie 'Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.' The surrounding area is characterized by immense botanical diversity, with ferns, mosses, and exotic trees flourishing in the constant humidity. Getting there
The spectacular falls are normally reached by driving along an unpaved road branching off from the main highway in western Cameroon, which leads directly to the primary viewing area.
Best season
Visiting just after the rainy season is highly recommended to see the falls at their most powerful and dramatic, though the access road is usually in better condition during drier months.
Terrain & paths
The immediate surroundings feature hilly, mountainous relief covered in lush tropical forest, with a steep trail descending towards the river that can be slippery from the mist.
What to bring
Shoes with excellent traction are absolutely essential for navigating the wet paths safely, and a lightweight waterproof jacket is recommended to protect against the constant spray of the falls.

A designated parking area is generally available at the top of the site near the entrance gate, where local guides wait and visitors can safely leave their vehicles.

Visitors should always stay securely behind any installed barriers, exercise extreme caution on the slippery steps, and avoid getting too close to the edge of the powerful cascading water.
