East Trnovo (Istočno Trnovo) is one of the smallest and least populated municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located within the Republika Srpska. It was established in 1995 following the Dayton Agreement through the division of the pre-war Trnovo municipality. The administrative center is located in the village of Kijevo. Geographically, the municipality is situated in a scenic valley between the massive Treskavica and Jahorina mountain ranges, making it an appealing destination for nature lovers. The region is characterized by pristine forests, clear mountain streams, and rich flora and fauna. Due to its small size and rural structure, the lives of its residents are primarily focused on agriculture and forestry. Despite its modest economic capacities, the municipality has tranquility and an authentic natural experience away from large urban centers. In recent years, there have been efforts to develop rural tourism and infrastructure to improve connections with nearby Sarajevo. The climate is typical of mountain valleys, with cool nights and fresh mountain air throughout the year.
