Lhuentse Valley (Bhutan)

Weather…

The Lhuentse Valley in northeastern Bhutan is one of the most remote and least visited regions in the country. It is considered the ancestral home of the Bhutanese monarchy; the House of Wangchuck originated here. The valley is known for its striking, pristine landscape with steep cliffs, dense coniferous forests, and the powerful Kuri Chhu river. Lhuentse is world-renowned for its Kishuthara textiles, intricately patterned silk brocades that are considered the finest in the country. The production of a single such piece can take months. The Lhuentse Dzong, perched on a rocky promontory above the river, is the administrative and religious center of the region. The valley is also home to Khoma village, the main center for Kishuthara weaving. Due to its remoteness, Lhuentse has preserved a very traditional atmosphere and features deep insights into rural Bhutanese culture.
