Gyalpozhing is an industrial and commercial town in the Mongar District of eastern Bhutan, located at the confluence of the Kurichhu and Sherichhu rivers. Its development was significantly boosted by the construction of the Kurichhu Hydropower Plant, a 60 MW project completed in 2002. The town serves as a major economic hub for the region, housing the Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology, which focuses on developing Bhutan's digital workforce. Geographically, it lies at a lower altitude than Mongar town, resulting in a warmer, subtropical climate suitable for various agricultural activities. The local economy is supported by trade, small-scale industries, and the presence of numerous government agencies. Gyalpozhing is also a key transit point on the lateral highway, facilitating the movement of goods and people between eastern and central Bhutan. The surrounding landscape features rugged mountains and the expansive reservoir created by the Kurichhu dam.
