The Ura Valley is the highest of the four main valleys of Bumthang, situated at an altitude of about 3,100 meters. It is known for its pretty landscape with wide, terraced fields and traditional villages with closely clustered stone houses. The valley is accessible via the Ura La Pass (3,600 m). The people of Ura have a unique culture and celebrate the Ura Yakchoe festival, during which a sacred and important relic is publicly displayed. Agriculture focuses on potatoes, wheat, and barley, as the climate is too harsh for rice cultivation. Dense coniferous forests cover the slopes above the villages. A walk through the main village of Ura features a fascinating insight into the traditional Bhutanese way of life, which is well-preserved in this remote region. Near the village, there is also a new temple dedicated to Guru Rinpoche.

Ura Valley is accessible from Jakar via the winding East-West Highway; crossing the high Thrumshing-La pass can often be challenging during winter or bad weather due to icy conditions and thick mountain mists.
