Trashigang is a town in far eastern Bhutan at an elevation of about 1,100 meters, on the banks of the Drangme Chhu. It is the administrative center of Trashigang District and the largest town in eastern Bhutan, with a population of around 8,000 (2017). The town is dominated by Trashigang Dzong, built in 1659 on a rocky spur. The economy is based on agriculture (rice, maize, citrus) and trade. Trashigang is a major transport hub, with roads connecting to Mongar, Lhuntse, and Samdrup Jongkhar. The climate is subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. The town is known for traditional weaving, especially kira and gho textiles. Tourism is less developed than in western Bhutan, but the area has scenic landscapes. Nearby attractions include Rangjung Monastery.
