Zhirovichi Monastery (Belarus)

Weather…

The Dormition Monastery in Zhirovichi is a spiritual epicenter and the largest Orthodox monastic complex in Belarus. The history of this holy site began in 1470 with the miraculous appearance of a tiny icon of the Mother of God, found by shepherds in a pear orchard. A wooden church was initially built on this spot, which developed in the 17th and 18th centuries into a monumental architectural complex that today combines elements of Baroque, Rococo, and Classicism. The extensive grounds include five majestic churches, among them the magnificent Dormition Cathedral, as well as bell towers and residential buildings for the monks. As one of the few monasteries that remained open continuously throughout the Soviet era, it played a key role in preserving the Orthodox faith in the region. Today, the monastery houses the Minsk Theological Seminary and annually attracts thousands of pilgrims who come to venerate the miraculous Zhirovichi Icon.
