Ruzhany Palace (Belarus)

Weather…

Ruzhany Palace, the historical primary residence of the powerful Sapieha magnate family, is one of the largest palace complexes in Belarus. Its origins date back to the early 17th century when Chancellor Lew Sapieha built a strongly fortified castle here. In the 1780s, under the direction of architect Jan Samuel Becker, the complex was transformed into a sumptuous palace ensemble in the Baroque and Classicist styles, often referred to as the Belarusian Versailles due to its grandeur. The palace featured a rich library, its own theater, and extensive parklands. However, as a result of numerous conflicts, including World War I and World War II, the building gradually fell into ruin. Today, mainly the monumental, restored entrance arcades and the massive brick ruins of the main building are preserved, attracting visitors from all over the world.
