Vygonoshchanskoye Landscape Reserve (Belarus)

Weather…

The Vygonoshchanskoye Landscape Reserve, tucked away in the vast forest and swamp massifs of the Brest region, is a remarkable reservoir of biological diversity centered around the shallow Lake Vygonoshchanskoye. The dense mixed deciduous and coniferous forests that blend seamlessly into inaccessible peat bogs form an undisturbed refuge for the fauna of Polesie. The area is internationally recognized primarily for its outstanding density of birds of prey and owls; nowhere else in Belarus do more pairs of the majestic Great Grey Owl breed, finding great nesting conditions in the ancient, dense tree stands. Furthermore, the extensive wetland network of lakes, rivers (Shchara and Yaselda), and canals provides a well-suited environment for flora, making the region a key area for the conservation of local marsh plants and amphibians.
