Sporovskoye Marsh (Belarus)

Weather…

The Sporovskoye Marsh in the Brest region is a unique biological reserve and was the first territory in Belarus to be designated under the Ramsar Convention. Located in the Berezovsky and Ivatsevichy districts, it encompasses a vast fen mire in the valley of the Yaselda River. The area's ecological significance is globally recognized as it hosts the world's most critical habitat for the rare Aquatic Warbler. The landscape is shaped by the slow current of the Yaselda, which supplies the marsh with water and supports a specific flora of reeds and sedges. In recent years, extensive conservation measures, such as controlled haymaking, have been implemented to prevent the encroachment of shrubs on the open mire areas. The reserve also includes Lake Sporovskoye, which serves as an important nesting ground for numerous waterfowl species and maintains the hydrobiological stability of the region.
