Hantsavichy, located in the northeastern part of the Brest Region, is a city whose creation and growth can be attributed almost entirely to the railway. The city was founded only in the late 19th century as a direct consequence of the construction of the strategic Vilnius-Luninyets railway line. Surrounded by the dense, partially swampy forests typical of the Polesia region, Hantsavichy quickly developed into a vital center for timber extraction and wood processing. A distinctly modern and imposing landmark near the city is the 'Volga' radar station, a massive military early-warning facility operated by the Russian Armed Forces. Culturally, the district is celebrated for its dedication to preserving traditional Belarusian crafts, particularly weaving, with intricate patterns that reflect the deep historical roots of the local population.
