Taktsang Monastery (Bhutan)

Weather…

Taktsang Palphug Monastery, popularly known as the Tigers Nest, is Bhutans most iconic sacred site and an architectural wonder. It clings spectacularly to a granite cliff, approximately 900 meters above the Paro valley floor at an elevation of 3,120 meters above sea level. The sites history dates back to the 8th century when Guru Rinpoche, according to legend, flew here on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave. The monastery was formally established in 1692 by the fourth Desi, Tenzin Rabgye. The complex consists of four main temples and residential shelters, interconnected by narrow paths and stairs. In April 1998, a devastating fire destroyed much of the main building and its valuable contents. Through a massive state-led effort, it was meticulously restored to its former glory by 2005 and remains the countrys primary pilgrimage destination and a symbol of spiritual resilience.
