Bagha Mosque (Bangladesh)

Weather…

The Bagha Mosque is a premier example of Husain Shahi architecture in Bangladesh, located in the Rajshahi district. It was built in 1523 by Sultan Nusrat Shah, the son of the great Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah. The mosque is constructed entirely of brick and is renowned for its exceptionally fine terracotta ornamentation on the exterior walls, depicting floral patterns, grapevines, and palm tree motifs. Originally, the structure was crowned with ten domes, all of which collapsed during the severe earthquake of 1897 but were later meticulously restored to their original form. The mosque sits on an elevated platform near a large pond and is part of a significant religious complex. Its cultural status is highlighted by its depiction on the 50 Taka banknote of Bangladesh. Bagha Mosque remains one of the most aesthetically significant monuments of medieval Bengal, attracting both worshippers and students of history.
