Hinterstoder is Upper Austria's only World Cup host community, idyllically located at the head of the Stodertal valley. The village gained international fame through the Hannes Trinkl World Cup run on the Hutterer Höss mountain, which is ranked among the most challenging slopes in the global ski circus. Despite its prestige, Hinterstoder has maintained the charm of an authentic mountain village, earning the 'Bergsteigerdorf' (mountaineering village) title. The scenery is defined by the mighty peaks of the Großer Priel and Spitzmauer. In summer, the Hutterer Höss is a hotspot for hikers and paragliders, featuring the 'Stoderblick' viewing platform. A nearby natural treasure is the Schiederweiher, a small lake frequently voted the most beautiful spot in Austria, where the Totes Gebirge mountains reflect in the mirror-like water. For thrill-seekers, the Großer Priel via ferrata is the longest in Austria, offering a true alpine challenge. Culinary options in Hinterstoder include regional specialties like 'Stodertaler Reindl' or fresh trout from the Steyr river. The village is easily accessible via the Pyhrn motorway (A9). The best time for skiers is January to March, while nature enthusiasts should visit in May and June to witness the spectacular alpine rose bloom.
