Concepcion del Uruguay, often referred to as La Historica, is a port city of immense historical significance located on the banks of the Uruguay River in Entre Rios Province. Founded on June 25, 1783, by Tomas de Rocamora, it played a pivotal role in the 19th-century formation of the Argentine state. The city was the home of General Justo Jose de Urquiza, the nation's first constitutional president, whose grand estate, Palacio San Jose, is located just outside the city limits. It is also home to the Colegio Superior del Uruguay, established in 1849 as the first secular educational institution in Argentina. Geographically, the city is defined by its active river port and sandy riverine beaches, which serve as major tourist attractions. The local economy is driven by the export of grain and timber, alongside a significant poultry industry. Its urban architecture preserves the elegance of the colonial and early republican eras.
