Duida-Marahuaca National Park (Venezuela)

Weather…

Duida-Marahuaca National Park was established on December 12, 1978, and is located in the heart of Amazonas State in Venezuela. Covering 210,000 hectares, it encompasses the monumental tepuis Duida and Marahuaca, along with the smaller Huachamacari. These sandstone plateaus rise steeply from the tropical rainforest, forming isolated ecosystems with an exceptionally high rate of endemic species. Cerro Marahuaca, at 2,800 meters, is the second-highest tepui in Venezuela. Geologically, these formations belong to the ancient Guiana Shield and are over 1.7 billion years old. Culturally, the area is of great significance for the Yekuana and Yanomami indigenous communities, who revere these mountains as sacred sites. The climate is characterized by extreme rainfall and dense cloud formation in the higher elevations. The park is accessible almost exclusively by river or air, which has helped preserve its pristine wilderness. The region hosts a unique fauna, including rare bird species and specialized amphibians adapted to life on the summits.
