- Shared taxis (marshrutkas) are the primary way to get around; confirm the fare before getting in.
- Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or traditional neighborhoods in this conservative region.
- Learn a few words in Uzbek; while Russian is understood, greeting locals in Uzbek opens many doors.

Andijan is one of the oldest cities in the Fergana Valley, with more than 2,500 years of history behind it. It is famed as the birthplace of Zahir ud-Din Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire in India, born here in 1483. With around 450,000 inhabitants, modern Andijan is a major industrial hub: in partnership with South Korea's GM Korea, cars are assembled here, alongside thriving textile, machinery, and food-processing sectors. The Babur Memorial House and the old Jome Mosque are among its most significant landmarks. In 2005 the city made international headlines during the so-called Andijan unrest, in which many lives were lost. The surrounding region is one of the most densely populated areas in all of Central Asia.
