Sary-Chelek Lake

Sary-Chelek is one of Kyrgyzstan's most beautiful natural destinations. Visitors come here to experience the pristine alpine landscape, surrounded by rugged mountains and seven smaller lakes. The main lake sits at 1,878 meters above sea level and gives mirror-like waters that perfectly reflect the surrounding peaks. The flora and fauna of the region are exceptionally diverse. The reserve is home to over a thousand plant species and rare animals such as the snow leopard. Hiking through the wild apple and walnut forests provides spectacular views and a tranquility rarely found in inhabited areas. Culinary-wise, travelers can enjoy traditional Kyrgyz hospitality in the nearby villages of Arkit. Fresh trout from the mountain streams, along with local honey and mountain herbal tea, are often served, making the stay an authentic experience. Access is best achieved by 4WD from Osh or Tash-Kömür. The roads can be challenging, but the scenery makes up for everything. The best time to visit is from June to September, when temperatures are pleasant and the trails are clear of snow.
