Its most significant feature is its proximity to the Oleshky Sands, often called a desert, which is the second-largest expanse of sand in Europe. This unique ecosystem is a national nature park. Historically, Oleshky was a major trade settlement of Kievan Rus'. One would typically travel through the regional capital, Kherson, to get there. The best time to visit would be late spring or early autumn. Note: The region has been heavily affected by conflict, and travel is not currently advisable.
