Khortytsia (Ukraine)

Weather…

Khortytsia is a massive granite island located within the city limits of Zaporizhzhia. It served as the capital of the Zaporizhzhian Sich, the democratic state of Cossacks that existed between the 16th and 18th centuries. Today, the island hosts a national reserve and an open-air museum where visitors can explore reconstructed fortifications, wooden barracks, and a traditional church. The northern end features 30-meter high cliffs overlooking the Dnieper, while the southern part is lush with forests and lakes. Khortytsia is not only a historical site but also a popular spot for outdoor activities like hiking and rock climbing. From the island's shores, you can see the imposing DniproHES dam, one of Ukraine's largest hydroelectric power stations.
