Yevpatoria is an ancient port city on the western coast of Crimea and one of the Black Sea's most renowned health resorts, particularly famous for pediatric rehabilitation. The city's history spans over 2,500 years, originating as the Greek colony of Kerkinitida. Following the Ottoman conquest, it was known as Gözleve, a period marked by the construction of the Juma-Jami Mosque in 1552, designed by the legendary architect Mimar Sinan. Yevpatoria is a center of religious diversity where Orthodox cathedrals, mosques, and the Karaite Kenesas, the spiritual heart of the Crimean Karaites, stand in close proximity. The city is celebrated for its shallow sandy beaches and the therapeutic mineral muds of the nearby Lake Moynaki. The Old Town features a labyrinth of narrow streets and historic limestone buildings, while the coastal embankments cater to modern tourism. Yevpatoria also operates a unique narrow-gauge tram system, one of the few remaining in the region. Its blend of Greco-Roman history, Ottoman heritage, and healing climate makes it a distinct cultural and wellness destination.
