Novomoskovsk is a historically significant city in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, situated on the right bank of the Samara River. The city's origins date back to the 17th century when it was founded as Samarchyk, serving as the center of the Samara Palanka for the Zaporozhian Cossacks. Following the liquidation of the Zaporozhian Sich in 1775, the settlement was renamed and developed into a vital commercial and administrative hub. The city's most outstanding landmark is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, a masterpiece of wooden architecture built in 1778 by Yakym Pohrybnyak without using a single iron nail. This church is regarded as one of the most important monuments of Ukrainian Baroque architecture. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded into an industrial center with the establishment of metallurgical and pipe factories. Today, Novomoskovsk is well-known for its pipe production and food processing industry, while simultaneously preserving its rich Cossack heritage. Its location along the Samara River and its surrounding forests also makes it a popular recreational area for residents of the nearby metropolis, Dnipro.
