High Castle Hill (Ukraine)

Weather…

High Castle Hill (Vysokyi Zamok) is the highest point in Lviv, standing at 413 meters above sea level and offering the city's most spectacular panoramic views. Originally, a wooden fortress was built here in the 13th century by King Daniel of Galicia to defend the settlement. In the 14th century, Polish King Casimir the Great replaced it with a stone castle, which served as a major military stronghold for centuries; today, only a small fragment of the southern wall remains. To commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Union of Lublin in 1869, an artificial mound was constructed on the summit, significantly increasing its elevation. In the 1950s, a prominent television tower was erected on the hill, becoming a recognizable part of Lviv's skyline. The area is now a forested municipal park, providing a peaceful escape and a historic lookout point for residents and tourists alike.
