Dominican Cathedral (Lviv) (Ukraine)

Weather…

The Dominican Cathedral and Monastery in Lviv, now the Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Eucharist, is a masterpiece of late Baroque architecture. The current structure was built between 1749 and 1764, based on the designs of the architect and military engineer Jan de Witte. The church is characterized by its massive elliptical dome and a striking concave facade, which are hallmarks of the late Baroque style. The interior is lavishly decorated with gilded wooden sculptures and features a grand high altar adorned with statues of the apostles. Originally, a 14th-century Gothic church occupied the site, but it was demolished in the mid-18th century due to structural instability. During the Soviet era, the building was converted into the Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism. Today, the complex is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lviv's Old Town and serves both as an active place of worship and a religious history museum.
