Betano Power Plant (Timor-Leste)

Weather…

The Betano Power Plant, officially known as Central Elétrica de Betano, is a central pillar of the energy infrastructure on the south coast of East Timor. Located in the Manufahi municipality, the plant was inaugurated in 2014 to provide a reliable power supply to the country's southern regions. Like its counterpart in Hera, this facility was constructed by the Finnish Wärtsilä corporation and features eight high-efficiency engines. The installed capacity amounts to approximately 136 megawatts, making Betano the most powerful power plant in the country. The plant is designed to operate on both heavy fuel oil and natural gas, allowing for a future transition to cleaner energy sources once national gas reserves are developed. Betano is also an integral part of the Tasi Mane project, a strategic development plan for the oil and gas sector on the south coast. The facility has significantly improved the quality of life in the region by drastically reducing power outages.
