La Chaux-de-Fonds is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters in the Swiss Jura and is one of the world's most famous watchmaking cities. Following a devastating fire in 1794, the city was rebuilt according to a strict grid plan to optimize lighting conditions for watchmaking workshops. Along with the neighboring town of Le Locle, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009, as its architecture is uniquely tailored to the needs of the watch industry. La Chaux-de-Fonds is also the birthplace of the renowned architect Le Corbusier, whose early works, such as the Villa Turque, can be visited here. In addition to its industrial significance, the city houses the International Watchmaking Museum (MIH), which comprehensively documents the history of timekeeping. Despite its industrial character, the city is surrounded by the impressive Jura landscape, offering numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.
