Bulle is the capital of the Gruyère district in the Canton of Fribourg and, together with La Tour-de-Trême, which was incorporated in 2006, forms a dynamic regional center. The town is strategically located at the transition between the Mittelland and the Pre-Alps. Historically, Bulle is closely linked to the cheese trade, as it was the most important transshipment point for the famous Gruyère cheese for centuries. Bulle Castle, built in the 13th century by the Bishops of Lausanne, still dominates the townscape today and houses the district administration. Culturally, the town gives deep insights into the traditions and history of the region with the Musée gruérien. Economic importance diversified in the 20th century, with industrial and service companies playing a central role today. Geographically, the region is surrounded by the striking peaks of the Fribourg Alps, such as the Moléson, which are of great importance for tourism. Bulle is also considered the most important transport hub in the southern part of the Canton of Fribourg, which has significantly favored the town's development. The lively old town with its markets preserves the charm of a traditional market town.
