Vevey is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Geneva in the Canton of Vaud and is considered one of the primary towns of the 'Swiss Riviera.' During the 19th century, the city developed into an exclusive tourist destination attracting prominent guests from around the world, including Charlie Chaplin, who spent the last 25 years of his life here. Economically, Vevey achieved global fame as the founding site and headquarters of the Nestlé food conglomerate, established by Henri Nestlé in 1867. The city's architecture is characterized by grand Belle Époque buildings and an extensive lakeside promenade. A cultural highlight is the 'Fête des Vignerons,' a winegrowers' festival held only about every 20 to 25 years, which has been recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. The region is also famous for viticulture in nearby Lavaux, whose terraces are also part of the World Heritage. Today, Vevey combines modern industry with a high quality of life and serves as a major regional center between Lausanne and Montreux.
