Aesch is located in the Birs valley in the canton of Basel-Landschaft and, together with the neighboring communities, forms the Birseck region. The town has developed from a farming village into a modern and attractive residential community in the Basel agglomeration. A striking feature of Aesch are its three castles: Aesch Castle, which now serves as the municipal administration, Angenstein Castle at the entrance to the Laufental, and the Pfeffingen ruins in the immediate vicinity. Geographically, Aesch benefits from the Klus, a prominent rocky gap that provides well-suited conditions for viticulture. The wines of Aesch are known throughout the region and shape the identity of the town. The economy is characterized by a mix of small businesses, services, and remnants of the once-dominant agriculture. The demographic structure is diverse and characterized by steady growth, highlighting the town's popularity as a residential location. The connection to public transport via the S-Bahn and the tram to Basel is excellent. Culturally, Aesch provides a rich club life and traditional festivals such as the carnival parade. The surrounding hills of the Jura and the banks of the Birs offer extensive local recreation areas for hikers and cyclists. Historically, Aesch was part of the Prince-Bishopric of Basel for a long time before joining the newly founded canton of Basel-Landschaft in the 19th century.
