Weil am Rhein is situated in the Rhine plain at the foot of Tüllinger Hill in the far southwest of Germany. The city thrives on its unique location in the border triangle shared with France and Switzerland, maintaining tight economic and social links with neighboring Basel. Historically, the area was dominated by agriculture and viticulture, with the sunny slopes of Tüllinger Hill still producing esteemed regional wines. The 19th-century railway expansion catalyzed its growth into a significant logistics and transport hub. Today, Weil am Rhein is best known as the 'City of Chairs' due to the Vitra Campus. This architectural landmark features world-class buildings by Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, and Nicholas Grimshaw, establishing the city as a global destination for modern design. Its retail sector also serves a large international clientele from the surrounding metropolitan area.
