Niederbipp is a political municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district of the Canton of Bern and is located at the foot of the southern Jura. The place has a long settlement history dating back to Roman times, as evidenced by archaeological finds. In the Middle Ages, the region belonged to the Lordship of Bipp, whose castle ruins are still visible today. Geographically, Niederbipp marks an important transport hub where the railway lines of the SBB and Aare Seeland mobil intersect. This favorable transport location led to strong industrial development in the 20th century, particularly in the fields of paper manufacturing and logistics. Despite industrialization, the place has retained its village character in the residential quarters. The surrounding landscape is characterized by fertile farmland and the wooded slopes of the Jura, which offer a variety of local recreation opportunities. A significant cultural event is the carnival (Fasnacht), which has a long tradition in Niederbipp. The municipality also serves as a regional center for education and services for the surrounding smaller villages of the Bipperamt.
