Tetere Amphibious Wrecks (Solomon Islands)

Weather…

Tetere Convoy Beach, located on the northern shore of Guadalcanal, is an extraordinary historical site known for its surreal collection of World War II remnants. Scattered along the sandy shoreline and resting in the shallow surf are dozens of abandoned LVT (Landing Vehicle Tracked) amphibious tractors. These vehicles were extensively used by U.S. forces for logistics and troop movements during the massive buildup following the initial 1942 landings. Left behind after the war ended, they have since been reclaimed by the tropical environment, with rust and salt air slowly dissolving their steel frames. The sight of these rows of decaying war machines against a backdrop of palm trees and turquoise water provides a powerful visual testament to the industrial scale of the Pacific conflict. Nature is gradually engulfing the wrecks, with vines and shrubs growing through the open hatches and engine bays. A visit to Tetere gives a unique, unfiltered look at military history, standing as a silent monument to the logistical endurance required to secure the Solomon Islands. The beach is now peaceful, offering a stark contrast to its former role as a high-activity supply hub.
