Rua Sura consists of a cluster of small coral islets located off the northeastern coast of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. These islets were historically significant during the British colonial era as productive sites for coconut plantations and copra processing. During World War II, Rua Sura became a tactical asset, serving as a lookout point and a staging area for Allied naval and air operations centered around the critical Henderson Field. Geographically, the islands are low-lying and encircled by bustling coral reefs that offer excellent fishing grounds but require expert navigation. In the modern era, the population is relatively small, with many residents engaged in artisanal fishing and small-scale agriculture. The islands are currently facing environmental challenges due to their low elevation, making them a focal point for studies on coastal erosion and sea-level rise in the Pacific.
