The Polhov Gradec Dolomites Landscape Park is a mountain range near Ljubljana, known for its steep slopes, deep valleys, and exceptional botanical diversity. The area gained international botanical fame in 1837 when the botanist Friedrich August Bergius discovered Blagay's daphne here, a rare plant named after the local castle owner, Count Blagay. This discovery was so significant that King Friedrich August II of Saxony climbed Mount Grmada specifically to see the flower. Today, the park is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers seeking tranquility away from the capital. The region also preserves a rich cultural heritage with scattered alpine farms and ancient churches that blend harmoniously into the hilly landscape.
