Lahinja Landscape Park (Slovenia)

Weather…

Lahinja Landscape Park, located in the heart of the Bela Krajina region, protects the upper reaches of the Lahinja River and its immediate surroundings. Established in 1988, the protected area covers approximately 259 hectares and is characterized by an extraordinary diversity of karst phenomena and wetlands. Particularly valuable are the low bogs of Nerajski Lugi and Lahinjski Lugi, which provide habitats for numerous rare plant and animal species. The Lahinja River originates here from several springs and meanders through a landscape rich in cultural heritage. A prominent example is the settlement of Pustni Gradec, situated on a river peninsula, which features a long history of habitation dating from the Copper Age to antiquity. Today, visitors can find an old mill and a sawmill there that are still functional. The park serves as an important center for ecotourism, offering insights into the traditional way of life and the unique natural environment of southeastern Slovenia.
