Vígľaš Castle (Slovakia)

Weather…

Vígľaš Castle is a magnificent historical landmark in central Slovakia, originally established in the 14th century as a royal hunting lodge. It reached its zenith during the reign of Sigismund of Luxembourg, who expanded the castle into a grand Gothic fortress suitable for hosting royal guests. The castle was later favored by King Matthias Corvinus, who frequently stayed here during his hunting expeditions in the surrounding forests. Throughout the centuries, it served various noble families but suffered catastrophic damage during World War II when it was burned down in 1945. For decades, the castle remained a desolate ruin until an ambitious reconstruction project began in 2009. This extensive restoration successfully transformed the ruins into a luxury boutique hotel and congress center while meticulously preserving its historical essence. Visitors can now admire the restored knights' hall, the inner courtyard, and the castle chapel, which blend modern luxury with authentic medieval architecture.
