Bojnice National Zoo (Slovakia)

Weather…

Bojnice National Zoo (Národná zoologická záhrada Bojnice) is the oldest zoological institution in Slovakia, opened in 1955. Situated on an area of roughly 41 hectares in the immediate vicinity of the historic Bojnice Castle, the park integrates the natural forest landscape of the region into its design. With over 430 animal species from all continents, it possesses the most comprehensive collection in the country. A particular focus is placed on the conservation and breeding of African elephants, whose new, state-of-the-art enclosure represents a milestone in the zoo's history. Furthermore, the zoo is actively involved in numerous European Endangered Species Programmes (EEP), including those for orangutans, Roloway monkeys, and bongos. It also operates an important rehabilitation station for wildlife native to Slovakia, saving and releasing dozens of birds of prey and small mammals back into the wild each year.
