Čičmany

Čičmany is a living open-air museum of Slovak folk architecture, set in the Strážov Mountains. The village gained international fame for its original log houses, whose dark timber walls are decorated with distinctive white lime-paint patterns. This tradition originally began as a way to protect the wood from sun damage but evolved into a sophisticated folk art style featuring birds, hearts, and stars. The village core was designated a Folk Architecture Reservation in 1977.
