Gandorhun is a small town in Kono District in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone, set in the diamond-rich hill country east of Koidu. The settlement straddles the boundary between the traditional Kono area and the fertile rice and cassava fields along the Bafi and Sewa rivers. Its economy is a mix of traditional farming - cassava, groundnuts, yams - and small-scale alluvial diamond digging; many residents work seasonally in nearby artisanal pits or as suppliers to the mining operations around Koidu and Yengema. The town has a weekly market, several primary schools, a secondary school, and churches of various denominations. During the civil war, Gandorhun, like many other Kono communities, suffered heavily from looting and displacement, but most residents returned after 2002. Its road links to Koidu, Tongo, and Sefadu make Gandorhun a typical example of the small mining and trading settlements of the eastern uplands.
