Castle Peak (Seychelles)

Weather…

Castle Peak is a distinctive mountain peak located in the eastern part of Mahé island, named for the castle-like appearance of its granite ridges. Rising to approximately 500 meters, it dominates the landscape above the Au Cap and Anse aux Pins districts. Geologically, Castle Peak is a classic example of Seychelles' granite formations, with steep rock faces and massive boulders defining its silhouette. The vegetation on the slopes is dense, consisting of a mix of original rainforest and secondary vegetation that returned after agricultural use ceased. Historically, the area around Castle Peak served as a sanctuary for runaway slaves during the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, the mountain is particularly popular with experienced climbers and hikers, as the ascent is considered technically challenging due to its steep sections. From the summit, one can enjoy unparalleled views of the southeast coast and the nearby reef system of the Seychelles.
