Volgograd Planetarium (Russia)

Weather…

The Volgograd Planetarium was opened in 1954 and was a gift from the people of the German Democratic Republic to the Soviet Union for Joseph Stalin's 70th birthday. The building is characterized by its neoclassical architecture, dominated by a monumental portico with Corinthian columns and a silver dome. Atop the dome sits the sculpture 'Peace' by Vera Mukhina, the creator of the famous 'Worker and Kolkhoz Woman' monument. The planetarium was the first of its kind in war-torn Stalingrad, serving as a symbol of reconstruction and scientific progress. It houses a Carl Zeiss projection device that projects the starry sky with high precision onto the dome's ceiling. Today, it remains one of the most important educational centers for astronomy and space exploration in southern Russia.
