Volzhsky is a major industrial city in Volgograd Oblast, situated on the left bank of the Volga River, directly across from Volgograd. Founded in 1951 during the construction of the Volga Hydroelectric Station, which remains one of Europe's largest, the city rapidly evolved into a heavy industry powerhouse. The local economy is driven by large-scale chemical plants, metallurgical works, and tire manufacturing facilities. Unlike many industrial centers, Volzhsky was designed with wide avenues and extensive parklands to mitigate the environmental impact of its factories. The city is located where the Akhtuba River branches off from the Volga, forming a unique hydrological landscape in the region. Today, Volzhsky is recognized for its efforts in environmental modernization while maintaining its status as a critical economic engine for Southern Russia.
