Weather…

The monumental statue 'The Motherland Calls' in Volgograd is one of the most striking memorials of the 20th century, commemorating the historic Battle of Stalingrad. Erected on Mamayev Kurgan, a hill that saw fierce fighting during World War II, the sculpture was completed in 1967 based on the designs of sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and engineer Nikolai Nikitin. The figure of a woman charging forward with a raised sword symbolizes the determination and victory of the Soviet forces over fascism. With a total height of 85 meters excluding the pedestal, it held the title of the tallest statue in the world at the time of its dedication. The stainless steel sword alone measures 33 meters and weighs 14 tons. To reach the base of the monument, visitors must climb exactly 200 steps, which symbolically represent the 200 days of the Battle of Stalingrad.
