Omsk Drama Theater (Russia)

Weather…

The Omsk Academic Drama Theater is one of the oldest and most respected theaters in Siberia. The current building was constructed between 1901 and 1905 based on a design by architect Ilya Khvorinov and is an outstanding example of Russian Eclecticism with Baroque and Art Nouveau elements. The facade is richly decorated with stucco, columns, and niches housing sculptures, including the figure 'Winged Genius' on the pediment. During the Russian Civil War, when Omsk was the capital of the 'White Movement' under Admiral Kolchak, the theater served as an important social meeting place. Over the decades, the ensemble has won numerous national awards, such as the 'Golden Mask,' and is known for its innovative productions of classical and contemporary plays. It remains a central pillar of cultural life in Western Siberia.
