Kamaz Truck Plant
The Kamaz Truck Plant in Tatarstan's Naberezhnye Chelny is the undisputed hub for heavy commercial vehicles in Russia and the CIS states. Founded in 1969 by decree of the Soviet leadership, a gigantic integrated complex was built in the steppe, encompassing all production stages from the foundry to final assembly. The first Kamaz truck rolled off the line in 1976, establishing the brand's reputation for extreme robustness and off-road capability, which is essential, particularly in the unforgiving Siberian terrain. The company achieved international fame through its unprecedented dominance in the Dakar Rally, where Kamaz-Master teams led the truck category for nearly two decades. With a production capacity of tens of thousands of vehicles per year, the plant exports heavy trucks, tractors, and engines to over 80 countries worldwide. The factory is so significant to Naberezhnye Chelny that the entire urban infrastructure and economy are structured around the enterprise as a classic monotown.
